From Cinema Services to the Ultimate Cinema Operating System
INDY wasn’t born in a boardroom—it was built by people who have lived and breathed the cinema industry. Before INDY, the cinema software solution, it started as a services company, led by Ian and Carmen Brown, helping cinemas streamline operations and maximize efficiency. But across countless conversations with operators, one frustration kept coming up: the software they relied on was outdated, rigid, and simply not built with their needs in mind.
At the same time, Keith Walker, a software engineer, had made an unexpected career move—he bought his hometown cinema. Excited to bring new life to the theater, he quickly ran into the same roadblock: the available software wasn’t up to the task. Managing showtimes, ticketing, F&B, and day-to-day operations was harder than it needed to be, and workarounds had become the norm.
When Ian, Carmen, and Keith crossed paths, they realized they had the same vision: cinemas needed a better solution. So in 2020, INDY evolved—from a services company into a modern, cloud-based operating system designed specifically for cinemas. By 2021, the first clients went live, and INDY quickly became the backbone of theaters worldwide.
Today, INDY is more than just software—it’s a platform built by people who truly understand the business of running a cinema, and it continues to evolve to meet the ever-changing needs of the industry.

Ian Brown
Chief Executive Officer
Ian brings 18 years of experience in the film industry ranging from engineer, cinema management to film festivals, Union Vice Chair and Screen Sector Leadership Group Board Member for Cinema in Scotland.
He started the cinema services company, INDY, 12 years ago and helps cinemas operate around the world.
Carmen Brown
Head of Finance
Carmen left a 13-year career in retail management and finance in London and Edinburgh to help build INDY and lead the in-house finance department.
A lifelong fan of cinema, she brings her commitment to customer care and financial expertise to the company and thrives on meeting new challenges.
Keith Walker
Chief Technology Officer
Keith has a Masters in Software Engineering from Carnegie Mellon. He is a DARPA Challenge Winner and spent time at the Lockheed Martin, Lawrence Livermore National Lab.
He was the Co-Founder of Venture Backed Joymode (raised from Lowercase, Homebrew, Pritzker, Naspers) and has been an independent cinema owner and operator for 10+ years.
